In 1994, the Department of Economics and Trade Foreign Languages was established and enrolled undergraduates of "English Major (Business English Orientation)". In 2001, the Department of Economics and Trade and the former Chinese Teaching and Research Section merged to form the School of Language and Culture. In 2007, the teachers and students majoring in Chinese from the original School of Language and Culture were transferred to the School of Humanities, and the school was renamed the School of Economics, Trade and Foreign Languages, Southwestern University of Finance and Economics.
